Domino #2
SO WE’RE BACK WITH DOMINO’S NEW COMIC LINE AND I HAVE TO SAY, I’M ODDLY ENJOYING IT. I SAY “ODDLY,” BECAUSE I’VE ALWAYS SEEN HER IN THE LIGHT OF STRICTLY BADASS OR TOTAL “HOT ACTION BABE” FROM THE EYES OF DEADPOOL. WE WILL BE DISCUSSING THESE ISSUES IN DETAIL SO SPOILERS FROM ISSUE #2 AND BEYOND.
Unlucky Matchup
We pick up from the last issue where this new antagonist – we’ll codename him Scrooge – exerts his initial issue with Domino. He’s joined by an already established character, Topaz, who seems to be his hired aggressor either willingly or not. Topaz doesn’t speak that much which leads me to believe that she is either the silent type or influenced. Her power has the ability to erase a mutants’ powers or force them to go into “overdrive” against their will. So you can imagine how a person who’s so used to fighting with luck on her side, tends to struggle against a super strong woman negating the said advantage.

Heart Strings
I do love the cameos from Spidey and Deadpool is still the lovable killer he is. However what really has invested so far, is this girlfriends relationship. I never heard of her friends Inez, the Outlaw and Rachel a.k.a Diamondback, but they offer an interesting dynamic. The friends alone do not provide much character thus far but Domino’s attachment to them and her overall feelings towards them. I know! This isn’t what I expected to like about the comic either, but dangit I can’t help but enjoy a vulnerable protagonist.

The Plot Stumbles
So that being said Scrooge and Topaz give Domino the fear of death. Nothing like being thrown out a window, expecting death, with no powers to save you, now that’ll give anyone a cold sweat every morning. We found out that Scrooge has suffered misfortunes instead of Domino due to her power, therefore he aims to bring her misfortune which in turn, makes him younger. Now, I’m starting to raise my eyebrow at this plot and motivation.
-
Firstly: Didn’t we establish that her power is based off mutant genes so why does it have some magical life tether to this stranger.
-
Secondly: How has he survived with all the death-defying luck she’s been involved in all these years? Does he just lose life for each time her powers manifest? If so then he should have died long ago. I would assume it’s the severity of misfortune because he gained like twenty years back just from one encounter.
-
Thirdly: What is the plan now? Do you just keep torturing her until you become a child? Wouldn’t killing her be the biggest misfortune you can give her? SO why spare her?
