Marvel’s Infinity War’s True Power: Investment

Infinity War’s True Power: Investment

So by now, I’m sure most of us have seen Marvel’s Infinity War. If you have not, come back after you watch it because we’re going into light spoiler territory here. This will be more of my thoughts and feelings regarding a particular aspect of the movie, rather than just a review.

The Power of Feels

Out of all the Marvel movies I’ve seen only a few managed to be more than “good” to “great”. Those few are The Avengers, Captain America: Winter Soldier and now Infinity War. However there’s one thing that I never thought these movies could do until now, and that created this unwavering attachment and fear of loss: “The Investment”. All eighteen or so movies, and not once did I believe these heroes were in true danger..

Annihilation: Evolving Very Slowly into Something Unique

Annihilation: Evolving Very Slowly into Something Unique

I mean what can I say about this movie? It’s one of those movies that when you have a spoiler discussion with someone – one person tends to say something along the lines, “You just didn’t get it”.

This makes it hard to critique it unless one feels the need to take a course in Annihilamonty and I. Don’t. Think. It’s. Worth. The. Effort.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi Still Lacking (Let’s Talk Progression)

Okay so let’s talk Star Wars

The Last Jedi, rather more to the idea of what I got from it. First off, let’s start by saying I didn’t really care for the movie. It was a beautiful spectacle at times and visually appealing. However, when you get down to the core of story-telling, again I found the newly rebooted Star Wars universe to be making such odd decisions.

So If you recall, I made a post about my lack of excitement for this movie because of character motivations. During the movie, I found it disappointing that my concerns were at times, not addressed but at other times, addressed poorly. After the movie, I sat down in my car and my friends asked me what I thought of the movie. The best and most simplistic response I could come up with was, “things happened”. The new stars, Rey and Finn often tend to be going nowhere but then immediately progress in the most inorganic fashion. I’m going to go into spoilers right now because rather than a review I want to follow up on my previous post, so here we go!

Why “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” does not interest me. (Let’s talk motivations)

Star Wars: The Last Jedi will be releasing in December and needless to say it will do very well. After following movie channels and blogs, there seems to be a much higher percentage of people whom are excited for this movie. I on the hand cannot even use the word, “intrigued” to describe how I feel about this upcoming sequel and here’s why.

Those who talk to me (regarding narration) will know that my investment lies in characters rather than story. The story must be proficient and I can always respect a strong story but it’s not the factor that moves me emotionally. People… Desires… Motivations… These are the meat of any story but since movies are a visual medium, that often can be substituted for spectacle.

So lets talk characters:

Blade Runner 2049: We kissed, I Yawned, You Yelled in My Ear

So lets talk Blade Runner 2049; BD2049 is a quasi-sequel to the original Blade Runner that opened in 1942. The movie is a mass of stunning visuals and often superb sound but all the buzz words that I could muster does not ultimately prevent the movie being overall… boring.
