Another Shounen Jump Hit
As I got older, I began to consider Shounen Jump, the “kiddie pool” of anime hits. This was in part due to many of the anime I grew up with, (Naruto, Bleach, Dragonball Z) all seeming more heavily flawed story-wise in their later years. These things happen. Shounen Jump is popular for many reasons but even I cannot deny it, if you’re on SJ lineup, you’re probably a hit! This brings us to the topic of the post, the weird, the strange, and the ballsy; Dandadan! This is a story of two unlikely students being unlikely heroes, while possibly being high off hallucinogenics.

The Longest Hero’s Journey
Lets talk Rokudou No Onna-Tachi, a story of an underdog whose persists in spite of it. So for those unaware, this manga takes place with a peaceful kid whose stuck in a delinquent-congested school. There, he and his to friends are constantly bullied and it seems that they will never be at peace at this school. He then receives from a his late grandfather’s gift which imbues a magic mark on his forehead. The next day, it seems that girls have become oddly more attracted to him… Well to be precise, it’s only delinquent girls. This becomes a curse in disguise when the most violent and unbeatable girl crosses path with him and begins to follow him at school – her name is Himawari, Ranna. Now, this manga has a very comedic beginning and while it may very realistic, albeit, perfectly sculpted anatomy. The story starts as the world’s beefiest bum, living in the ghetto with a nice crew of neighbors. He was living a pretty uneventful life until the local ramen shop was roughed up by some yakuza. To everyone’s surprise, this NEET is absurdly strong and adept at fighting. He dispatches the goons and gained the attention of another gang. This gang gives him the vision to create a gang like no other. In truth, the protagonist doesn’t wish for fame nor power but as he puts, “I just want to protect someone!” The gang uses his bland desire to coerce him into not only joining the gang… but becoming the gang leader, Boss Ken.
